We’re working for the big machine,
The way they treat us is obscene,
They suck us dry to get a Wall Street gain;
They tell us how we are to act,
Integrity, ethics and tact,
Them spring upon us like they’ve gone insane.
They tell us we should suck it up,
“Be a man. It’s just tough luck,
All companies are doing what we’ve done.”
Let me tell you we’re unique,
Your thoughtless moves have stuck us deep,
We can’t sit by and watch our money run.
We’ve always done what we’ve been told,
The time has come to break the mold,
You can’t just screw your team and walk away;
You’ve tried this nasty trick before,
Our benefits walked out the door,
Except for those with balls to lead the way.
The union stood in eighty nine,
And dared us all to cross the line,
As they refused to let you make amends;
They were never blinded by,
The propaganda that would fly,
In hopes of taking more for dividends.
The CWA… got their way,
You’d save it for another day,
Meanwhile management would bear the load;
With corporate hats we said “OK,”
Our benefits were sucked away,
But deep inside we’re ready to explode.
Please let us know the reason why,
The impact seems to pass you by,
You always seemed to dance and get your share;
You don’t work harder than we do,
If cuts are made then why not you?
Your attitude just screams you do not care.
You’ve always said we are a team,
But talk is cheap, you’re in a dream,
How about a big cut in your pay?
At certain firms, the CEO
Took a cut to help them grow,
I bet that team felt special on that day.
Imagine seeing leadership,
Truly give, without the lip,
I know that may be hard to understand;
You ought to see the lesson there,
Then look around, that’s if you dare,
And somehow take your head out of the sand.
It would send a message to us all,
That, at times, when duty calls,
We ALL step up and take one for the team;
The words you say are clear and true,
“It’s not for me, it’s just for you.”
Guess I’m the one who’s living in a dream.
